My latest random IRL tech convo
This week I had a quick chat with a young man in his late-twenties. He teaches sociology at a high school in Los Angeles. He has never interacted with or used crypto. He’s heard of Bitcoin, but never used it. He’s never heard of web3 or NFTs. And he’s tried ChatGPT but finds the AI chatbots to be scary.
I’m doing these convos to get some idea of what everyday people think about these new technologies. I’m stunned by how little they know about the entire tech world. But I shouldn’t be. A few years ago, that was me.

Crispr Pioneer Jennifer Doudna Takes on Gut Bacteria
What isn’t the microbiome responsible for? It’s been all the rage for the past few years, with scientists hoping it could help treat everything from immune disorders to mental illness. How exactly that will work is something we’re just starting to explore. This spring, the effort got a boost when UC Berkeley biochemist and gene-editing pioneer Jennifer Doudna, who won a Nobel Prize in 2020 for coinventing Crispr, joined the pursuit. Her first order of business, spearheaded by Berkeley’s Innovative Genomics Institute: fine-tuning our microbiome by genetically editing the microbes it contains while they’re still inside us to prevent and treat diseases like childhood asthma. Could 3D printing help solve the US housing crisis?
3D-printing robots are being used to build a 100-home housing development in the US state of Texas. A major housing development, built using 3D-printer robots on-site, is taking shape in the US state of Texas. The 100-house project on the outskirts of Austin is the product of a partnership between US house-building giant Lennar, and 3D printing company ICON. LINK

Use Reverse Goal Setting to Achieve Your Goals
Physician turned entrepreneur, Justin Sung, shares his Reverse Goal Setting technique.
What is Reverse Goal-Setting
Step 1: Identify your goal
Step 2: Imagine the person who can achieve this goal
Step 3: Evaluate your current state
Step 4: Do a force field analysis
Step 5: Create the plan
This is powerful. Try it!
I hadn't heard of GPTZero. That is going to be invaluable, especially if it can be included into browsers (such as Brave) to automatically check articles and provide a badge/checkmark for H or AI.
Thanks for interesting and helpful information as always.
